Gina B does a really great job making exercise fun yet effective.  She incorporates dance moves that are easy to follow.  From someone (me) who finds the trendy "cool" hip hop videos too hard to follow (and not my style at all), these workouts are just right for me!  I really enjoy the music too.  The workouts are so fun that on days I get myself to do "just one five-minute song", I find myself doing several more! She is upbeat and clearly communicates when any floor exercises or weights are involved, giving you a moment to pause and catch up.  These workouts are easy to do even in limited space.

For those with health concerns, I highly recommend these videos.  In the past I had injured myself following the wrong videos (discovered a birth defect in my back, who knew).  These videos have low impact options and don't strain the back nor involve complicated movements that might twist a knee.  These are fun workouts that still give you good exercise.  You can choose some cardio or even some good strengthening exercises.  I can feel the burn!  Building muscle and strength is good!

Gina B not only has workouts, but offers free tips as well.  Nutrition is just as or more important than exercise! Gina is the person who helped me find My Fitness Pal, which works great for home cooks like me.

Additionally, she has some paid programs for more personalized help.  And, if you are in Australia and they ever lift the lockdown, she does local workout classes (or used to).

My Fitness Pal

Calorie and Nutrition tracker, accountability/friend groups

I once thought calorie tracking was impossible for me.  I also thought that tracking calories must be so effective for weight loss because one spends all their time trying to figure out their calories instead of doing anything else!

But then Gina B from Up To The Beat Fitness mentioned some details about My Fitness Pal which I will share with you.  I decided to join when I realized that I must be eating back all of my exercise progress (and I was doing great at being consistent!).

My Fitness Pal maintains (and add to) their database constantly, allowing you to quickly add food and amounts to your meals.  The best part I like is that you can put in your own recipes, exactly as you made it, set your # of servings (I put that info in the title to remember - 1 cup each etc), and log your servings as you use it.  This has been such a great tool.  You can also log your estimated calories burned, water, and track your nutrients if you are looking at certain things like sodium or protein.

Additionally, they encourage streaks of logging to keep you consistent, and help you set goal calories for the day to help you safely lose weight even if you can't get in your exercise that day.

There is a whole different section of My Fitness Pal called community, where you can share recipes, join an accountability group, find friends, and join challenges.  My Fitness Pal encourages safe weight loss, which is good.  They are also very strict on keeping things workplace appropriate, which I appreciate (safe to log in at the workplace, and use around kids).  I am using this site as a tool to teach myself nutrition, caloric density, and portion control.

Since starting with My Fitness Pal and following Gina B's videos, I've been losing weight!  It's been really encouraging!

These low impact workouts are simple to use at home with no equipment. The workouts utilize full range of motion and incorporate several different aerobic and strength training moves. They are divided into 15 minute “miles” (calculated in beats per minute).  Leslie Sansone started these workouts at her church to help people get fit.

The options for accessing these videos are as follows:
1) free videos through Youtube Channel  https://www.youtube.com/user/walkathomemedia
2) free video samples through an app you choose from their list (depends on your device).  You have to create a login.  https://yourdailywalk.com/shop
3) Purchase a download (or a DVD) from the website or through the App.  You get to keep that video through the App indefinitely.
4) Purchase a subscription, with different videos to choose from.
