Himmit and Hermit Introduction: On the Road towards a homestead hermitage in Arizona

We're a married couple moving to Northern Arizona to homestead in high mountain desert. We have lived for years in Washington State, but for various reasons we have decided to move. We've been planning, hoping, and praying to homestead for years. God finally opened a door in Arizona.

Initially, we thought that we would live in Washington State. There were some relatives there and we thought some things would go in a different direction. But they didn't. As many of you know, Washington State is a completely lockdown state, and from experience, that includes most local bulletin boards which makes any sort of agreement almost impossible. The local crime and control is amazing. The amount of effort spent to control law abiding people is almost greater than the amount being spent to control criminals. So we are moving to Arizona.

We purchased a ten acre parcel of raw land. We will begin a homestead on that property. We'd been planning for years to do this, so we're at least emotionally ready for it. But like a lot of things, it takes a lot of effort and resources to do anything. We have a budget that limits what we can do and how we can do it. We've identified our immediate needs and believe that we have enough to at least address those. So, we think we can make this happen.

There are going to be some real challenges, of course: new area, water, climate, critters, soil, etc. We've made a couple of contacts in the area and think that there are good people there.

We're looking forward to finding a community we can work with down there and become a part of. We'll report our adventures, projects, and foibles on our Youtube Channels (2) and Blog.

As you might be able to tell, we're not trying to become famous on the internet. So you won't likely see much of us, except for glimpses now and then. Our aim is to report what we're doing and how we're doing it, and encourage others who are going through the same thing. We've done a lot of research and we think the Arizona soil can be tamed! If Israel can make the desert an oasis, so can we!
